I’m an avid reader. I started reading a handful of years after college when I wasn’t forced to read textbooks everyday. I told my sister the other day that it is an addiction that creeps up on you. First you read one book every month or two. Then you read one book a month. You start craving book stores. You start buying books to read before you finished the one you’re reading (can you believe I actually didn’t buy books until I had finished the ones I had?!?). You start wanting to touch books. Smell them (just me?!). Hoard them. Then before you know it, you’re reading three books a month, are in two separate book clubs, hosting and attending book events, and your whole life revolves around books. I could think of nothing better. You can always check out what’s on my reading list, what I’m currently reading, and reviews at my goodreads.

What I’m reading for June:

Catcher in the Rye: J.D Salinger:

I struggle to read classic novels. I just find they’re not my jam. But I want to evolve. I’ve had this one on my shelf for awhile and decided to jump in.

“Fleeing the crooks at Pencey Prep, he pinballs around New York City seeking solace in fleeting encounters—shooting the bull with strangers in dive hotels, wandering alone round Central Park, getting beaten up by pimps and cut down by erstwhile girlfriends. The city is beautiful and terrible, in all its neon loneliness and seedy glamour, its mingled sense of possibility and emptiness. Holden passes through it like a ghost, thinking always of his kid sister Phoebe, the only person who really understands him, and his determination to escape the phonies and find a life of true meaning.

The Catcher in the Rye is an all-time classic in coming-of-age literature- an elegy to teenage alienation, capturing the deeply human need for connection and the bewildering sense of loss as we leave childhood behind”. Goodreads link for the book here

The Last To Vanish: Megan Miranda:

I’m obsessed with thrillers. This is one of my book club picks and I’m so excited for it.

“Ten years ago, Abigail Lovett fell into a job she loves, managing The Passage Inn, a cozy, upscale resort nestled in the North Carolina mountain town of Cutter’s Pass. Cutter’s Pass is best known for its outdoor offerings—rafting and hiking, with access to the Appalachian trail by way of a gorgeous waterfall—and its mysterious history. As the book begins, the string of unsolved disappearances that has haunted the town is once again thrust into the spotlight when journalist Landon West, who was staying at the inn to investigate the story of the vanishing trail, then disappears himself.

Abby has sometimes felt like an outsider within the community, but she’s come to view Cutter’s Pass as her home. When Landon’s brother Trey shows up looking for answers, Abby can’t help but feel the town closing ranks. And she’s still on the outside. When she finds incriminating evidence that may bring them closer to the truth, Abby soon discovers how little she knows about her coworkers, neighbors, and even those closest to her”. Throne of Glass: Sarah J. Maas:

Where are all my romantasy girlies at?!? I was introduced to this genre by a friend of mine and started reading A Court of Thrones and Roses series and didn’t look back. Another book club pick.

“In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king’s champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass—and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world”. Goodreads link here
