October is here! Spooky season is upon us and my favorite genre of books is psychological thriller. It’s also the perfect genre for Halloween. The reading list was a tad light this month. I’m still trying to make my way through Binding 13 (Boys of Tommen book #1) by Chloe Walsh and Queen of Shadows (Technically book #4 by Sarah J. Maas. It was the perfect time to read the queen of psych thrillers Freida McFadden. I also picked a Reese’s Book Club thriller. Happy Reading! Happy Spooky Season!
The Inmate by Freida McFadden:
There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men’s maximum-security:
1) Treat all prisoners with respect.
2) Never reveal any personal information.
3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.
But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary’s most notorious and dangerous inmates. And they certainly don’t know that Shane was Brooke’s high school sweetheart―the star quarterback who is now spending the rest of his life in prison for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke’s testimony was what put him there.
But Shane knows. And he will never forget.
Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister:
Can you stop a murder after it’s already happened?
It is midnight on the morning of Halloween, and Jen anxiously waits up for her 18-year-old son, Todd, to return home. But worries about his broken curfew transform into something much more dangerous when Todd finally emerges from the darkness. As Jen watches through the window, she sees her funny, seemingly happy teenage son stab a total stranger.
She doesn’t know who the victim is, or why Todd has committed such a devastating act of violence. All she knows is that her life, and Todd’s, have been shattered.
After her son is taken into custody, Jen falls asleep in despair. But when she wakes up… it is yesterday. The murder has not happened yet—and there may be a chance to stop it. Each morning, when Jen wakes, she is further back in the past, first weeks, then years, before the murder. And Jen realizes that somewhere in the past lies the trigger for Todd’s terrible crime…and it is her mission to find it, and prevent it from taking place.
